Faculty Legislative Representative (FLR) Max Kirk had to step down from his position, leaving the Faculty Senate without a representative for part of the special session.
Kirk, an associate professor in the School of Architecture and Construction Management, volunteered for the position. However, he said he will not be able to cover the position due to knee problems. He said in the meantime he is searching for another representative.
The FLR for the spring 2011 session, Cathryn Claussen, said the position entails meeting with legislators, meeting with the Council of Presidents to address faculty interests and testifying before the House and Senate.
“The next FLR will have to consider the same faculty concerns as I did,” Claussen said. “Basically, how to help the legislature understand the negative impacts of budget cuts and costs and benefits of any proposed strategies for dealing with budget cuts.”
Max Kirk said it may take a couple weeks to fill the position.
