When Bill Moos became WSU’s athletic director in the spring of 2010, he came to the university with a plan.
"The main goal was to get Cougar Athletics in a position to be successful, to compete for championships, to represent the university in a positive manner,” he said. “And I think we're moving toward that goal in a solid way."
During his time here, Moos has been the driving force behind the two-part Martin Stadium Renovation project and has hired Mike Leach, a prominent football coach who had success at other institutions.
Leach’s hiring benefited the university by bringing in a higher amount of donations and increasing the season ticket sales, Moos said.
The stadium renovation is expected to bring similar benefits while also improving athlete recruitment, he said. The renovation will include the current Southside project for the premium seating, as well as the West End-zone project, which will be brought before the Board of Regents this winter or spring.
"These two projects together will attract very good quality student athletes,” Moos said. “It will produce revenue streams for us to grow our programs – not just football, but all of our sports – and I think we'll be attractive to the campus and also the national audience since we'll be playing all of our football games on television for the next 12 years."
As a WSU alumnus with experience as a student athlete, Moos said he is humbled and thrilled to have the chance to finish his career at this institution.
“I'll always have the best interest of my alma mater as I make very important decisions along the way," he said. “I feel very fortunate to have a chance to work at Washington State and work with President (Elson S.) Floyd, who I think is a dynamic leader and extremely influential person on this campus.”
