A collision between two cars and a pickup truck sent six people to Pullman Regional Hospital Saturday afternoon. All were treated and released during the weekend.

The crash took place at the intersection of Highway 195 and State Route 194 when the driver of a black Sedan turned into the path of a northbound red Sedan, Washington State Trooper Douglas Power said.

"The red car struck the back corner panel of the black car and the black car spun out," he said. "The pickup that was behind the red car wasn’t able to stop in time. But the main collision was between the red and black cars.”

David Ackerland, 25, from Clarkston was the driver of the pickup truck.

Seeing the accident ahead, he attempted to hit the breaks, but was unable to come to a complete halt, Ackerland said. He said the incident was scary.

"I was holding onto the steering wheel as hard and tight as I could and I screamed," he said.

After hitting the back of the black car, the red Sedan swerved off of the pavement and into a ditch by the side of the road, Power said.

“When the fire fighters first got to the scene [red Sedan] was smoking,” he said. “They were afraid there was a danger of fire. So that's why we had a fire response out here. The smoke quit, but they stayed on the scene until we got the car out of the dry grass.”

The three females in the red Sedan were taken to the hospital as well as a man, woman and baby from the black Sedan as a precaution, he said.

There were no major injuries, Power said. “It's all going be bumps, bruises, cuts. Nothing serious. The airbags did their job.”
