The main focus of the meeting is executing the business of the city, council member Keith Bloom said. There are a number of items on the agenda. Many are administrative or housekeeping.   

According the council agenda, Ordinance No. 11-11 refers to the revision of the boundaries of the three wards of the City of Pullman. Resolution R-65-11 would authorize the execution of a business use agreement between Pullman and WSU for the use of WSU indicia on the Pullman transit system and Resolution R-66-11 accepting the bid of Perovitch Painters, INC. d/b/a Speedpro Imaging for the transit bus wraps project.  

“There is one item that will deal with our continued relationship with the Department of Ecology and our desire to address upgrades to Pullman's Waste Water Treatment Plant,” Bloom said. “It is a public hearing and all members of the general public are encouraged to visit and express their informed views on this subject.” 

Bloom said, all the property owners and taxpayers of the Pullman will be affected.  The agenda will require funds the city currently does not have. 

“It's important to understand the workings of government at all levels,” Bloom said. “Some would consider the business of the city to not be as exciting as that of the federal government. The city business is often fairly mundane, approving position descriptions, payrolls or public works project completions; in fact, the issues at the city, county and state level probably have a greater impact on your day-to-day lives then the Feds.” 

The ASWSU will discuss agenda items with the council meetings, Bloom said.

“We hold these joint meetings twice a year and have grown to rely upon them to keep abreast of issues that students are interested,” he said. “Input to ASWSU or Pullman City officials is always solicited for discussion topics as a way to ensure good relations and addressing burgeoning issues that we may not be aware of.” 

Bloom said increased community attendance would give a better representation of public opinion.  

“(There would be) better informed decision making,” he said. “Hearing multiple sides of an issue helps to form a more well rounded opinion and better action on a subject.”
