Flirty Girl Fitness is a pole above the rest
The new dance videos prove to be more than just a work-out

As I opened up one of the last gifts under the tree, my face lit up as I peeled back paper to reveal the pink box I had so coveted. Underneath the title, it read, “Are you fit to strip?” At this point, I did not think it could get any better.

Ever since I saw my first Flirty Girl Fitness (FGF) infomercial, I have been incredibly curious. FGF promised to bring moves from the club and music videos into my living room for a fun and sexy workout. How can a girl resist?

There were many things I loved about these tapes, and some things I could have lived without putting my body through. This week I am taking a vacation from the fashion world to share my experience.

The “Booty Beat” routine was my favorite. It was high energy and easy to learn.

Another thing I liked about this tape was that it utilized repetition. I normally have to do choreography a few times before I figure it out, so the fact that repetition was built into the routine was great.

Normally, it’s hard for me to find time to exercise, so when I do I like to make it count. Surprisingly, FGF actually made me sweat. Half an hour on the elliptical at the SRC doesn’t even come close to the “Booty Beat.” I was expecting it to be a total joke, but what I ended up with far exceeded my expectations.

Sophomore hospitality business management major Jordan Newman did the tapes with me.

“I wasn’t expecting it to be so intense. Once we finished the instructional portion, things really heated up,” said Newman.

Not all of FGF was all it cracked up to be.

The soundtrack is absolutely terrible. I think a technologically illiterate ten-year-old could have devised better beats.

In a few places, the editing is a little strange. Sometimes, moves did not sync up with music. It is important to have your own sense of the beat because you can’t always follow the dancers.

Also, it came with a feather boa. Normally, I would be elated, but the only word I can use to describe it is emaciated. Compared to the boas used in the “Just Teasing” FGF video, the one I received in the mail looks sad, not to mention it sheds like no other.

The only video I really got a workout from was “Booty Beat.” “Chair Dance” was more complicated than anything else and is meant for those with good coordination. The same can be said for the video “Just Teasing,” which basically entails rolling on the ground and touching yourself. However, “Just Teasing” did introduce me to the “Stripper Push-up,” which was a laugh.

These videos are not for the self-conscious. You will never have fun if you are worried about being judged. I suggest you embrace your inner Flirty Girl and reflect on what that means to you.

Also, the more down and dirty you get, the better the work out. Remember, it takes effort to be that slutty. If you do not give it your all, you are only cheating yourself.

These videos can’t be taken too seriously, which makes them all the more fun. With dance moves such as “the Slave”, “the Dirty”, and “the Party Girl”, the workout really brought a smile to my face.

Be sure to have water on hand. “Spanking it” for eight counts may not seem difficult but once “Flash Dance” comes in, it will hit you like a brick wall.

I would not go so far as to say that anyone who is enticed by the idea of Flirty Girl Fitness should get the advertised “fitness pole” installed in their living room, but I do recommend these tapes for anyone who enjoys fun workouts with a sexy twist.
