Cougs fall short at home

The Washington State Cougars fell to Texas Christian University Sunday night after making an unsuccessful effort to come back from an early 13 point deficit.

Kyan Anderson drove and drew the foul with 5.8 seconds left in regulation. The game was tied at 62 before Anderson hit both free throws to put the Horned Frogs ahead by two.

After the TCU’s free throws, DaVonte Lacy took the in-bound pass down the length of the court and drove to the basket, where he was blocked from behind by a TCU defender to end regulation.

“In the situations in practice we always talk about going to the rack and try and finish or get a call and not settle for a jump shot,” Lacy said. “That’s what I tried to do.”

The Cougars shot 36.5 percent from the field and 38.2 from behind the arc. After the first half, WSU was down 36-25.

“Yeah, we executed some things not perfectly, but we executed enough to get some good shots,” head coach Ken Bone said. “We just simply did not make shots early on.”

WSU guard Royce Woolridge was able to hit four out of his five shots from the field and ended the game with 13 points. In the second half, he was able to dribble into the paint and draw the fouls.

After a 20 point performance against Gonzaga on Thursday, freshman guard Ike Iroegbu was 2-7 from the field this game. He finished with six points.

TCU also out-rebounded the Cougs 34-24 in their 2-3 zone defense. Senior Forward D.J. Shelton led the game with 11 rebounds.

“It’s just something I focus on every day and set goals and try and get as many rebounds as possible and be aggressive,” Shelton said.

Next up Washington State will face Butler in Orlando at the Old Spice Challenge tournament on Thanksgiving Day.
