WSU men’s basketball defeated by Gonzaga

The WSU men’s basketball team faced off against the No. 13 ranked Gonzaga Bulldogs last night in Spokane.

The Bulldogs controlled the tempo of the game from the first whistle to the final. Gonzaga defeated the Cougars by a score of 90-74.

In the first half, Gonzaga junior guard Kevin Pangos led the way for Gonzaga by nailing three total three-pointers and controlling the Bulldog offense. Pangos was the leading scorer for Gonzaga and scored 27 points during the game. Gonzaga made six total three-pointers in the first half.

WSU freshman point guard Ike Iroegbu helped keep the game close in the first half. Iroegbu scored 15 points in the first half and finished the night scoring 20 points total.

WSU trailed the Bulldogs by 16 points at halftime. The Cougars seemed to make the necessary adjustments at halftime and were able to cut down the lead to nine points with just more than 15 minutes left in the game, after WSU redshirt senior forward D.J. Shelton made a couple big shots.

However, Gonzaga would prove why they were the 13th best team in the country by opening up the game. Gonzaga made a living behind the three-point line. Bulldog redshirt graduate guard Drew Barham made five of eight three-pointers and helped the Bulldogs cruise to a 16-point victory against the Cougars.

WSU junior guard DaVonte Lacy finished the night scoring 14 points, and WSU Shelton finished the game with ten.

The Cougars fall to 2-1 on the season and will face the TCU Horned Frogs Sunday at Beasley Coliseum at 3 p.m.Â
