Annual Tri Hop is back again

Delta Delta Delta is hosting their annual Tri Hop Pancake Feed on Saturday, the proceeds of which will go toward their attempt to raise $60 million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Over the past three and a half years, Tri Deltas across the country have raised $15 million for St. Jude, through a nationwide partnership between the two organizations.

After exceeding their original goal of $15 million in five years, Tri Delta decided to set the bar higher, aiming for $60 million over the course of the next decade.

Through their various funding programs, the sorority has come to be one of the leading donors to St. Jude, matching the contributions of many large corporations. The WSU chapter alone has raised $24,000 this year for the hospital, and they typically bring in around $6,000 from the Tri Hop event each year.

Everyone in the house sells seven tickets. With around 150 members, this amounts to over 1,000 tickets.

“I think it’s a great way to get the community together to support a good cause,” said Lauren Grogan, a Tri Delta member. “A lot of people usually attend.”

Specifically, the money that Tri Delta raises from the Pancake Feed goes toward funding for the Tri Delta Place, located at the St. Jude Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. In the event of a deadly illness in any child, the child and their family can stay free of all charge at the Tri Delta Place for a week while their child is receiving treatment.

“It was a really cool experience seeing the patients and how our money is impacting these people,” said Molly Shipman, philanthropy chair. Shipman was among the members of Tri Delta who had the opportunity to travel to Memphis in February to see firsthand what their donations were being utilized for.

During their stay, members were able to visit both the Tri Delta Place and the hospital itself. Much of the trip was spent learning how they could interpret that experience to their chapter members to help those who didn’t attend to see how beneficial their philanthropy efforts are.

“We always talk about St. Jude as members of Tri Delta, but getting to go and see what our hard work does is truly amazing,” said Ali Swanson, Delta Delta Delta president. “It was one of the most gratifying experiences of my life.”

Tri Delta is expecting a high turnout for the event. Tri Hop will take place Saturday at 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., at 800 NE Colorado St. Tickets are available for $5 at the Compton Union Building from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today. Tickets are $7 at the door on Saturday night.
