Circle of Sisterhood

From staff reports

This semester, the Panhellenic Council’s philanthropy committee has launched a new social media campaign to support the Circle of Sisterhood organization.

The Circle of Sisterhood is a 4-year-old national organization based out of Indianapolis. It supports entities which assist in supporting education for girls. Circle of Sisterhood focuses primarily within the United States and developing countries.

“Circle of Sisterhood allows us to give the incredible gift of education to women who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to attend school,” said Panhellenic Council Vice President of Public Relations Cori Uddenberg. “As a council, we believe women have, can, and will continue to change the world.”

WSU’s social media campaign, which launched last week, has begun to gain ground in their support and awareness, thanks to a series of events hosted by the committee.

“Our main goal was to get the foundation’s name out into the community and to engage members to actively support our cause,” said Vice President of New Member Services Sarah Moore, in regards to the launch activities.

On Friday, more than 150 people actively participated during the committee’s tabling event. The event consisted of individuals sharing in writing what education meant to them. These stories are currently being made into large posters that will be displayed at future events hosted this year.

“We want the conversation of empowerment and education to last beyond this one week of awareness,” Moore said.

This month, the committee will also host a March Madness Bracket competition in order to raise funds and awareness.

Alpha Omicron Pi, Alpha Tau Omega, Phi Delta Theta, Phi Gamma Delta, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Sigma Nu, Sigma Pi, and Sigma Tau Gamma have each been informally recognized by the committee for members who have participated in their campaign.

Future involvement by community members can be tracked by attaching the hashtag #CofSwsu to social media posts. More information can be found at the Circle of Sisterhood at Washington State University community Facebook page.
