Weapon fired at party

FROM STAFF REPORTS

Police are still looking for a suspect after gunshots were fired at a party on Whitman Street early Sunday morning, Pullman Police Cmdr. Chris Tennant said.

Tennant also said the Pullman Police Department is investigating a link between the shooter and a girl who allegedly discharged Mace roughly 60 seconds before the gunshots were heard.

A Daily Evergreen staff member present at the event said he was standing in the area where Mace was sprayed, and heard gunshots immediately after, while still incapacitated from the Mace.

At this time, police have not made an arrest and do not have a shooting suspect, nor have they obtained the weapon, Tennant said. He also said the parties involved in the investigation have not been cooperative with the police.

Police do not know if the individual who fired shots was a guest at the party, Pullman Police Sgt. Dan Hargraves said.

Tennant confirmed the discharged weapon was a pistol, but could not disclose the caliber of the weapon. Police have confirmed that three bullets were fired into the ceiling of the house on Whitman Street around 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

Pullman PD Public Records Officer Penni Reavis said an officer heard an additional round fired upon arriving at the scene.

Hargraves said after the man left the party, another shot was heard from the driveway. The bullet was the “same or similar” to the ones found inside, Hargraves said. He added it was likely this shot was fired upward into the air, and no one was hurt.

Reavis also confirmed that no one was injured during the shooting.

Police have recovered bullet casings and are investigating the incident, said Hargraves. No injuries have been noted.
