Letter to the Editor: President Floyd

Dear Daily Evergreen,

It has been several years since I have felt compelled to write for or to this publication that at one point I was a columnist for. However the “Wake up Wazzu” article published today left me compelled to say a few things.

I had the distinct pleasure of working closely with Dr. Floyd for nearly three years in my time at the Associated Students of Washington State University. I can say without a doubt, that he is here to listen, and be a part of the critical discussion we must have about race, inequality, gender and cultural norms, and creating a more accepting and inclusive campus environment for all who consider themselves part of the Palouse community.

The first book I ever read was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. In it, Harry grows to learn that not only is the headmaster of his new school Hogwarts one of the most powerful wizards in the world, but is one of the kindest men he had ever met.
Elson Floyd, or as he always told me to call him, Doc, will listen, he will feel, and he will continue to protect us the best way he can.
