I am scholarly, I am Panhellenic

Women of the Greek community are highlighting their community involvement this March with a new challenge titled #IAmInvolved for the Panhellenic Council’s I Am Panhellenic Campaign. A video was released this morning on Panhellenic social media accounts.

“We want to highlight the members of our community that are going above and beyond in this aspect of university life,” said president of the Panhellenic Council Taylor Christenson.

This challenge follows the first portion of the campaign, #IAmScholarly, which took place throughout the month of February and wrapped up on March 1 with a Panhellenic Study Slam hosted in the CUE.

The Study Slam lasted four hours. Six rooms were reserved for three different studying preferences. Some rooms were completely silent. A couple allowed light music and talking. The rest hosted round tables for group projects and larger homework assignments.

“We wanted to provide them with options so each woman could choose whichever environment they study best in while also meeting and interacting with women from a variety of chapters,” said vice president of scholarship and service Carly Ellingsen.

This method also allowed the council to celebrate the individuality of members by addressing the concept that people have different methods of achieving success, she said. Panhellenic Study Slam successfully set a fun precedent for completing a campaign challenge.

The #IAmScholarly challenge itself was influenced by the National Panhellenic Conference recognizing February as Month of Scholar; a time to focus on one of fraternity and sorority life’s most emphasized values.

“We wanted to begin our #IAmPanhellenic initiative by taking part in Month of Scholar because, before we were sorority women, we were students,” said vice president of public relations Cori Uddenberg. “Being a student is a prerequisite to membership in our organizations, and therefore the most important value we hold.”

Throughout February, the council took nominations and met with women who were noticed for outstanding scholarship. After learning more about these women, social media posts were made by the council recognizing their efforts.

All of this was done in conjunction with other larger events that took place within the community.

This month, #IAmInvolved will similarly follow the model of interactive activities and social media exposure with United Greek Association Week and a calendar of events that will be released later this week.

The council’s campaign mission statement reads, “By promoting the contributions of each member, we remind ourselves and others of our purpose: to be better than we were when we joined and to be better still even after we leave.

With this, Christensen said that the importance of members being involved with both their chapters and the university will be emphasized.

Uddenberg said she also hopes the result of #IAmInvolved begins a conversation among members about their role in recent community events.

More events and updates will continue to be posted on WSU Panhellenic Council’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram feeds.
