Summer has started, and with less restrictive COVID-19 protocols, the Tuesday Community Market is open for locals to reconnect with and support old and new vendors in the community.

The community market, located in Moscow, is open every Tuesday until Oct. 1. The market is run by University of Idaho’s agriculture department. It serves as a way for new farmers to get acquainted with farmers markets and for people to buy fresh produce and other products from local sources.

“You’re supporting local farmers and you’re helping spread awareness while also getting the chance to educate yourself on what’s in the area locally, who’s in the area locally,” said Ezmeralda Perez, UI intern and market coordinator.

Ember Powell, UI professor and program coordinator, said the market started at the Moscow Food Co-op in 2018 and moved to a few different places before settling in the Latah County Fairgrounds.

Powell said the market helps farmers improve their marketing skills while getting the chance to sell their products. The market also serves as an opportunity for students to work as interns and gain some experience coordinating events.

The market hosts vendors selling different crafts such as home decor, flowers or art. They also have a space with Moscow Brewing Company where visitors can get drinks and listen to music.

Powell said the market is a way to support the community after the pandemic. Supporting local farmers and vendors will ensure they stay afloat if another pandemic were to happen.

“The more we can support the community, the more it can support us in times of crises,” Powell said.

The market runs every Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. until Oct. 1. Anyone interested in becoming a vendor or setting up with the market can contact Perez at [email protected]

“It’s a great time to socialize, hang out with friends while also having a more low-key market experience without the giant crowds that may be at larger markets,” Perez said.
