From 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, the Gladish Community Center and Cultural Center will be putting on its first community yard sale for locals to buy and sell their used items.
The idea for a yard sale came after new Gladish staff members started looking for fresh ideas, said Kristin Lincoln, marketing and development officer.
The idea for the yard sale came after staff members went through the center’s storage and noticed they needed to get rid of extra supplies, she said.
“As we’ve been looking over how we want to serve the community better than we have in the past, we’ve started thinking of different events and things we could do that was a little more community-minded,” Lincoln said.
The center itself will be selling “a little bit of everything,” Lincoln said, including desks, chairs, kitchenware and more.
General manager Angela Fridley said outside of usual exceptions such as weapons, drugs and alcohol, there is no restriction on what vendors can or cannot sell.
“It’s a good opportunity to have a yard sale without having to go through the hassle of setting it up at your own house,” Lincoln said
Along with vendors, the yard sale will have tables staffed by local nonprofits like the YMCA and Sacred Heart Catholic Church to talk to attendees and advertise their organizations. Fridley said staff members wanted to support various organizations and allow the community to get connected with them.
Fridley said they hope to make the yard sale a yearly tradition to unload unneeded supplies from storage and give the community a space to meet up and sell new wares.
“It’s a great way to hit up multiple yard sales at once instead of having to drive around all over town,” Lincoln said. “You can go to one location, it’s inside … you can go to a couple of different stalls … and you can get some information about our local nonprofits as well.”
