Local merchandise company, College Hill is hosting its annual Back-to-School Barbecue from 4-6 p.m. Sept. 1 at Ruby Street Park.
Pullman’s new Crybaby Café is supplying beverages, such as coffee drinks from Kamiak Coffee Company and non-alcoholic cocktails made in-house, said co-owner Cory Preston. Crybaby Café will also showcase local DJ MACFIE, who will be mixing live music.
DABCO Apartments is planning to attend the event for the first time. The organization will provide Red Bull and water, as well as raffles with prizes and games like cornhole, water pong and spikeball, said regional manager Mel Abrams.
DABCO hopes to become a familiar face in the community through attending the event and engaging with local community members, Abrams said.
College Hill will also give out free merchandise and raffle two customized Carhartt backpacks with WSU embroidery, marketing manager Lana Galerman wrote in an email.
ASWSU is planning to table at the barbecue as well, said President Brian Patrick. ASWSU is bringing games and providing information about student government to students and people interested in learning more.
Pullman Chamber of Commerce will also table at the event with the Downtown Pullman Association, said executive director Marie Dymkoski.
The Chamber of Commerce will hand out Pullman maps and answer attendees’ questions. Many students do not know about smaller, non-chain businesses in Pullman so this is an opportunity for them to learn more about what the city offers, she said.
College Hill invited the Chamber of Commerce to participate in the barbecue in past years, and the chamber is happy to participate again, Dymkoski said.
Other vendors attending the barbecue include the Coug Store, Pullman Regional Hospital, ZZU CRU, Pullman Police Department and the College Hill Association, Galerman wrote in an email.
