The Washington State University cross country team will travel to Lewiston, Idaho Saturday to compete in the Inland Empire Classic.

“We’re using this race as a little tune-up for Pac-12’s (Championship),” WSU cross country Coach Tim Riley said in a press release. “With this course, I think we can work on a couple things tactically.”

Teams competing in the meet will include mostly Northwest schools, such as Gonzaga, Montana, Eastern Oregon, and the College of Idaho, Riley said. At one point during the season, the College of Idaho women’s cross country team was ranked No.2 in the country in the NAIA, he said.

“There will be some good competition there as well,” Riley said.

The men’s team has fixed some things since the Notre Dame Invitational two weeks ago, and the men are getting healthier, which is a good sign, Riley said.

Riley said he is looking forward to having a healthy roster of men competing Saturday, and he plans to have the men be more aggressive race-wise. The men will run an 8-km race at the meet, according to wsucougars.com.

On the women’s side, Riley said the team felt a little fatigued last week, but the plan is to have the women run as a group on Saturday.

Juniors Ruby Roberts and Abby Regan will compete in their second race of the year, and the meet will give Roberts and Regan another race under their belts for the season.

The women will run a 5-km race at the meet, according to wsucougars.com.
