Bennie Seltzer slated for induction into the Pac-12 Hall of Honor

From staff reports

There are several players that garner fond memories from long time Cougar basketball fans. Among those players is Bennie Seltzer, who will be recognized by the Pac-12 for his stellar performance on the court.

Seltzer will be inducted into the Pac-12 Men’s Basketball Hall of Honor on Saturday, March 14, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The former guard for the Cougar basketball team will be inducted as part of the 2014-‘15 class, along with 11 other honorees. Recognition will occur during the championship game at halftime.

Seltzer will follow in the footsteps of fellow Cougar alumni Jim McKean (2013) and Ed Gayda (2014)— the most recent Washington State Hall of Honor inductees.

Seltzer spent all four of his college years at Washington State from 1989-1993 where he earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology. During his senior year, Seltzer received All-Pac-10 First Team Honors and averaged 17.9 points per game. Seltzer set a record for four consecutive 100-plus assists during his time as a student-athlete.

After Seltzer’s time as a Cougar, he moved on to play professionally abroad for four seasons.

After retiring from the sport as a player, Seltzer began his work in coaching. He served as head coach of the Samford Bulldogs from 2012-2014. During Seltzer’s last season as head coach, the Bulldogs made it to the quarterfinal round of the Southern Conference where they lost to the Davidson Wildcats by a score of 54-77.

Prior to Samford, Seltzer was an assistant coach at other colleges, such as Oklahoma University, where he spent nine years.

Seltzer is a husband, father of two, and, most recently, director of player performance at Indiana University. The position is temporary for now and he was brought in as an effort to improve the strength and conditioning program within the athletic department. Seltzer was previously an assistant coach for Indiana until his head coaching offer from Samford.
