Tim White | The Daily EvergreenA police line blocks the scene of an Arby’s shooting in Moscow, ID on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015. The shooter shot and killed three people before being taken into custody.

From staff reports

A Moscow resident has been taken into custody at Whitman County Jail after shooting four victims, leaving three dead and one injured.

The Moscow Police Department received a call at 2:31 p.m. reporting a shooting at Northwest Mutual Life Insurance in downtown Moscow. The suspect was later confirmed to be 29-year-old John Lee.

Two were shot. David Trail, 76, was taken to Pullman Regional Hospital where he was declared dead.

Seattle resident Michael Chin, 39, was taken to Gritman Medical Center in Moscow and later reported to be in critical condition. During tonight’s press conference, Moscow Police Chief David Duke said that Chin had been shot in the leg and arm.

Marty Johncox, community relations manager at Gritman Medical Center, said that Chin was no longer at Gritman Medical Center. It is unknown if he was transferred to a different medical facility.

While responding to the first call, Moscow police received another call at 2:38 p.m. reporting a second shooting at the Arby’s restaurant one mile away from Northwest Mutual Life Insurance. Arby’s manager Belinda Niebuhr, 47, was shot at the drive-thru window.

“Lee entered the restaurant and asked for the manager. Lee then produced a weapon and opened fire,” Duke said.

Niebuhr was transported to Gritman Medical Center where she was declared dead.

Duke said he suspects that Lee knew Trail and Niebuhr prior to the shooting. He believes that Chin may have been working with Trail when Lee entered Northwest Mutual.

Lee’s adoptive mother Terri Grzebielski, 61, was later found dead at her residence in the 400 block of Veatch Street, according to the press release.

Duke said that Lee fled in a black Honda after the shootings. Pullman police observed the vehicle near Pullman and attempted to stop the vehicle. Lee ignored this attempt and a pursuit ensued. The vehicle later crashed at milepost 47 on Highway 195 at 3:20 p.m., according to the press release.

A warrant for Lee’s arrest is in progress, so Moscow police can transfer Lee from Whitman County Jail to Latah County Jail, Duke said.
