Over winter break, injuries, accidents, two sex offenses reported

From staff report

When Pullman quieted down over break and most students left campus to return home, police intervention was still required for incidents, including two reported sex offenses.

On Dec. 19, a 27 year-old woman from Seattle reported a sexual assault that happened five years ago on Greek Row.

Pullman Police Sergeant Dan Dornes said due to how old the report is the case remains inactive, pending new evidence.

The next day, a 22 year-old male WSU student reported a sexual assault.

Dornes said the man was staying the night at a friend’s apartment after a night of heavy drinking and was intoxicated.

After awaking from a short time of being passed out, the male reported he was making food when a woman in the apartment started making sexual advances and aggressions towards him, eventually performing oral sex on him without consent. He left immediately following the incident.

Dornes said the case is still active.

The policing incidents also included reports ranging from a dog bite to a hit and run.

On Dec. 26, a 5 year-old boy was sent to the hospital with minor injuries after being bitten on the face by a dog.

The incident occurred inside a residence while two children were under supervision of a baby sitter. A 3 year-old was also bitten but did not need medical attention.

Two days later, on Dec. 28, a Pullman resident was arrested for a hit-and-run after failing to report a car accident.

Elizabeth M. Suarez, 57, had a car v. tree collision on Center Street and did not contact police or the property owner afterwards.

Later, on Dec. 30, a WSU student was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear in court.

A warrant was put out on Michael C. McFarlane after failing to appear in court for a hit-and-run accident that had happened earlier in 2014.

On New Year’s Day, a suspected DUI hit-and-run that left a car topside is under investigation.

Pullman Police Commander Chris Tennant said the accident occurred on the 900 block of B Street. The driver came to a stop on top of the hill, but rolled back and hit a fire hydrant, causing the vehicle to flip.

Later that week, on Jan. 5, a Pullman woman was arrested for theft at a Tesoro gas station.

Tennant said Pamela R. Rodgers, 43, was taken into custody for third degree theft after stealing two lighters, valued at $4.08.Â
