Police investigate suspect’s motives, support families

From staff reports

The Moscow Police Department continues to actively investigate the shooting deaths that took place in Moscow on Saturday. Moscow Police Chief David Duke said the department is focused on making sure the victims’ families have as much support as possible.

The Moscow PD is interviewing everyone connected to the suspect and victims in an attempt to establish the motive. They are also investigating the suspect’s mental health.

John Lee, the suspect in the shooting, changed his name in early 2013, Duke said. Previously, he was known as Kane Grzebielski. Duke said police are still investigating reasons for the name change.

Three were killed in the shooting and one was seriously injured. Michael Chin, the survivor, has been stabilized at a hospital in Spokane. Chin graduated from WSU with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and Spanish in 1999, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Lee had his first appearance in court on Monday. There, he faced a Washington felony charge for eluding arrest following a high-speed 25-mile car chase before crashing near Steptoe. After this process is complete, he will be extradited to Idaho to answer three charges of first degree murder and one charge of attempted first degree murder.
