Two people were shot near McGee Park early Saturday morning, resulting in the death of at least one victim.
Both individuals were transported to Pullman Regional Hospital where one victim died. The other victim sustained life threatening injuries and was transported by Life Flight to a hospital in Spokane, according to a press release from Pullman Police Department.
At least one of the victims is confirmed to be a WSU student, according to the release. Their names are not being released at this time pending the notification of family members.
Around 12:30 a.m., Pullman police officers responded to a report of a loud party on the 1200 block of NE Myrtle Street, according to the release. As officers approached the scene, they reported hearing multiple gunshots and found two male individuals with multiple gunshot wounds.
Kaleb, who requested to be identified only by his first name, said he was at the scene when the shots were fired. He said it appeared to stem from an altercation that took place out front of the party.
Following the shooting, multiple Pullman police officers responded to a report of a suspicious person in possession of a gun near Adams Mall on Greek Row, according to an officer on the scene. Officers patrolled Greek Row with rifles and advised people to stay indoors.
Around 7 a.m., Pullman resident George Melvin Harris III was arrested for assault in the second degree for his involvement in the shooting, according to an updated press release from the Pullman Police Department.
Pullman police are still actively investigating the shooting. Members of the Washington State Patrol Crime Laboratory are expected to be on the scene this morning to assist in the investigation, according to the press release.
