Washington State Women’s golf battled the weather once again after play at the Rose City Collegiate in Aurora, Ore.

The Rose City Collegiate tournament was forced to cut down to two rounds because of the inclement weather. Despite the extreme rain and wind conditions, the Cougars managed to stay at sixth place overall.

The team ended up tied at fourth place on the first day of play after the first round with a score of 304, 11 strokes behind first place Oregon State.

Junior Kristen Rue led the Cougars on the first day of play tied for fourth place with a score of 73, +1.

Senior Mallory Kent, sophomore Rachel Lewis and junior Lindsay Harmon all came in the top 25 with only 18 holes played because of the weather conditions.

As the second and final round started on Tuesday morning, the Cougars came out with a mentality to get back in the game.

After the first round, Head Coach Kelli Kamimura said she knew it wasn’t going to be easy with the weather conditions, but she wanted the team to play smart and aggressive.

“The conditions were rough and we played our last-nine holes really well,” Kamimura said.

On Monday, the wind died down, but the rain continued. As a result, practice rounds were cancelled. The Cougars still managed to finish at sixth place overall with a score of 613.

Kent again came in first for WSU, but 14th overall at the tournament. Her final score was 151.

Rue finished in 18th place with a score of 152. Harmon also placed in the top 25 with a score of 154, according to Goviks.com

Oregon State University took first place in the tournament with a score of 586 overall. Coming in first was Anica Yoo from Oregon State with a score of 142 and second place was Luciane Lee from UC Irvine with a score of 143.

Next up for Women’s golf is The Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in Sammamish Tuesday, Oct. 8.
