Cooking with Carson: Fancy BLT sliders dressed to impress

Recipe that makes you feel like more of a chef; BLT perfect pairing for pickled onions

CARSON HOLLAND, Evergreen columnist

If you have been following along with this series, then you hopefully have a jar full of delicious pickled onions that you have been putting on absolutely everything! I know I have! I already remade the recipe a few times to get those onions on something new.

Today, we are going to give you something you can actually put those pickled onions on! I am a huge fan of bacon, and I usually throw some lettuce and tomatoes together for an easy and delicious sandwich – the BLT.

We are not just going to be putting some bacon on two pieces of white bread. No, no, no! We are going to be spicing up the recipe to stretch your cooking muscles, but do not worry. It will not be too hard.

This recipe only takes a few steps and ingredients, but it still makes a delicious meal that you can share with your friends. So break out your bacon, bring out that jar of pickled onions and start picking out that ripe avocado.

One important note â€“ the bread will be coming later in a recipe down the road, so keep an eye out. For now, feel free to use whatever bread you have on hand although local stores will usually carry some sort of slider buns.

In the meantime, sit back and relax. This is an easy dish to prepare, cook and eat. If there are ingredients that you want to switch around, you are more than welcome! BLTs are customizable, but I can guarantee – as a stranger on the internet – that this combination is delicious.

Hope you enjoy it!

INGREDIENTS – Per one slider

  • 4-5 pickled onions per slider
  • 2 slices of bacon broken into pieces
  • A small spread of avocado on both sides
  • 1-2 pieces of microgreens, shoots of salad vegetables, like spinach
  • 2 slices cherry tomatoes

OPTIONAL ADD-ONS

  • Red pepper flakes
  • Green Onions
  • Sriracha

INSTRUCTIONS

Prep Time: 10-20 minutes

Cook Time: 15-20 minutes

Cooking the Bacon

  1. Please, please, please do not overload the pan!
  2. For sandwiches, I would recommend cooking the bacon until crispy.
  3. Place the bacon on a paper towel to de-grease.
  4. Sandwich up!

Slicing the Tomatoes

  1. Slice the cherry tomato in half.
  2. Lightly salt both sides of the open face.
  3. If you are feeling extra fancy, slice the tomato tops to make them even.
  4. Place on the sandwich.

Green Onion Chopping

  1. Get a sharp knife, be careful though!
  2. Grab a group of green onions, lining them up as best as possible.
  3. Slice them as thin as possible, and try to get into a rhythm.
  4. Chop as much as you need!
  5. Do not worry about chopping the white ends. They taste good as well.
