Multiple furniture fires reported over the weekend

Pullman Police and Fire responded to two separate incidents of furniture being lit on fire following the football team’s triple overtime victory Saturday night.

The two fires, one on C Street and the other on Howard Street, were reported shortly after the final whistle of the game, said Penni Reavis, Pullman Police support services manager.

The fire on C Street had already been extinguished when authorities arrived, Reavis said. The incident on Howard Street required fire officials to assist and put out the blaze.

Reavis said that, while they could not officially state that the fire was in celebration, this is not a new phenomenon.

“I don’t know if I would say it’s common,” she said. “Although it has happened before, and it has been known to happen after games.”

She also said that every incoming class and student body is different, so first responders try not to judge harshly before these events occur. She added that they are also prepared to deal with incidents of this nature due to the fact that they have happened in the past.
