The WSU men’s golf team will host the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate at Palouse Ridge Golf Club Monday and Tuesday.

Men’s golf is back in the Palouse.

The Washington State University Cougars will host the fifth annual Itani Quality Homes Collegiate Monday and Tuesday as part of the team’s home opener for the 2013-14 golf season.

The Itani Quality Homes Collegiate will make its fifth appearance at Pullman’s Palouse Ridge Golf Club this week. This year’s tournament will be the second year that Itani Quality Homes is an official sponsor.

Led by Head Coach Garrett Clegg, the Cougars will serve as host and returning champion for the 12-school tournament. WSU regained the title last year, its third Itani Quality Homes Collegiate title in four years, after falling to San Jose State in 2011.

The event marks the only tournament that will be hosted by WSU at Palouse Ridge Golf Club for the 2013-14 golf season.

The contenders for the tournament title include Boise State, British Columbia, California State Fullerton, Chico State, Gonzaga, Idaho, Sacramento State, San Jose State, Santa Clara, Seattle, Utah Valley, and the hometown Cougars.

Each team will play two rounds of 36 holes on Monday, followed by another round of 18 holes on Tuesday. Tournament play will begin each day at approximately 7:30 a.m.

Leading the way in the tournament for the 2013-14 WSU Men’s Golf Team are: freshman Nick Mandell and Blake Toolan; sophomores Ryan Books, Michael Anderson, Bhurinat Sonpaiboon, and redshirt Sang Lee; juniors Charlie Mroz and redshirt Alex Wagner; and seniors Jarrett Foote, Kent Hagen and Blake Snyder.

Cougar Alumnus Hank Frame took home the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate tournament title in 2012.

Following the two-day tournament, WSU men’s golf will head to Bremerton Sept. 16-17 to compete in the Kikkor Golf Husky Invitational, hosted by University of Washington.

WSU students can watch the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate today and tomorrow for free at Palouse Ridge Golf Club. Live results for the tournament will be updated each day at golfstat.com and at the end of each day at wsucougars.com.
