Senior setter Camryn Irwin sets for the WSU volleyball team during the Cougar Challenge Tournament in Bohler Gym on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2013.

WSU’s volleyball team will carry a perfect 10-0 record into its second home tournament of the season, hosting the Cougar Invitational today and tomorrow.

Also set to compete in the tournament are cross-state rivals Idaho (6-4), Seattle (2-11) and Nevada (2-7).

“It will be great to be back home,” WSU Head Coach Jen Greeny said in a press conference. “It will be some tough competition this weekend, but we’re looking for some wins.”

Last year the Cougars traveled seven miles to Idaho to compete in the Nike Idaho Invitational, falling to the Vandals in five sets.

“Any time you’re playing in a rivalry type game – Battle of the Palouse, right here – it’s fun,” Greeny said. “There’s a little bit of extra excitement, a little bit of extra pressure that goes on. And they beat us in five last year, so it’ll be nice now to play them in Bohler Gym and see what we can do.”

The Cougs come home fresh off their third tournament victory in as many tries after winning the Sam Houston Invitational last weekend in Huntsville, Texas.

WSU swept all three of its matches in the tournament, with freshman outside hitter Kyra Holt ultimately coming away with her second tournament MVP honors of the season. Junior middle blocker Ver’Leea Hardaway and senior middle hitter Marcelina Glab were named to the all-tournament team.

Holt currently leads WSU in kills with 144, while junior outside hitter Jaicee Harris has contributed 97, and Hardaway, 95.

Senior captain setter Camryn Irwin has thrown up 383 assists so far this season, putting her in fifth place on the WSU career all-time list, only 11 assists behind fourth place Krista Beightol.

As of Sept. 15, WSU is one of only 12 undefeated teams left in the nation; fellow Pac-12 members Utah (10-0) and Washington (6-0) are in the same distinguished group.

The Cougars are also ninth in the nation in team hitting percentage at .314 and 18th nationally in blocks per set with 2.81.

WSU will kick off the tournament in a match against Idaho today at 7 p.m., followed by matches on Friday against Seattle at 11 p.m. and Nevada at 7 p.m.
