WSU outdoor track and field team shines throughout three meets

Cougs deliver record-breaking performances, podium finishes

The WSU outdoor track and field team had a busy weekend with three meets in two states and achieved a plethora of podium finishes and personal bests.

The Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos, Texas, highlighted the talented women’s 400-meter hurdles group with Mackenzie Fletcher taking first place and achieving a season-best time of 1:00.47, and teammate Jada Van Staden taking third with a PR of 1:01.33.

The women’s 200m also did very well as Elise Unruh-Thomas and Jasneet Nijjar both attained PRs and took first and third place, respectively.

At the Texas Relays, held in Austin, Texas, both Louie Hinchliffe (10.23) for men’s and Elise Unruh-Thomas (11.57) for women’s achieved the fourth-fastest time in the 100m dash.

Lee Walburn also made his appearance at the meet known by obtaining PRs in both the 100m (11.01) and 110m hurdles (15.33) during the second day of the men’s decathlon and ended with placing fifth in his WSU decathlon debut.

The Stanford Invitational located in Stanford, California did not disappoint with many accomplishments for the Cougs. Alaina Stone Boggs is now the fourth-fastest 5,000m runner in program history after her time of 16:14.77, the fastest time in the Pac-12 this season. Cristina Molteni was right behind her (16:24.13). Molteni is now the eighth-fastest runner in program history.

Nana Gyedu also broke records in women’s shot put with a new personal best and has moved up to fourth all-time in program history.

Ronald Grueso Mosquera also excelled in the shot put with an impressive throw of 19.16m, placing third in the men’s invite Saturday. His throw also moved him up into WSU’s shot put’s all-time ranks at fifth place.

Cougs can support track and field Friday as they compete in Spokane at the Whitworth Peace Meet.
