WSU libero Karly Basham celebrates after sweeping UW, Sept. 21, 2023, in Pullman, Wash.

After a big sweep over their rivals Washington in the Apple Cup, the No. 7 WSU volleyball team is ready to hit the road yet again to start a slate of three straight matches away from Bohler.

The Cougs (11-1, 1-0 Pac-12) will face off against Arizona (5-7, 0-1 Pac-12). The Wildcats are 2-1 in their last three and lost their Conference opener against in-state rival and Iman Isanovic’s former school, Arizona State, in a sweep.

WSU is 25-47 all-time against the Wildcats and a very poor 9-26 against them on the road. However, the Cougs have had their best start to a season since 2017 at 11-1 and have been playing fantastic volleyball recently.

Holding onto a four-match win streak against Arizona over the past two seasons, the Cougs, led by their core of Magda Jehlárová, Pia Timmer and the rest of the team, have been re-writing program history and dominating the Conference.

Against UW, Jehlárová broke the program record for block assists in a career, another accolade added to her laundry list of accomplishments as a Coug, a list ripe to get longer in coming matches.

Up to being ranked No. 7, the Cougs boast the 21st hardest strength of schedule in the nation. Coming into this season hoping for a bid to host the first rounds of the NCAA Tournament, if they keep playing like they have been it should be on lock. The Match against Arizona is set for first serve at 1:05 p.m. in the McKale Center and will be available for stream on Pac-12 Arizona. 3
