Cross Country runs in Seattle

The WSU cross country team will travel to the west side of the state this weekend to compete at the Sundodger Invitational in Seattle.

“This time of year it should be a good place to run quick before we really start getting after it in a couple weeks,” WSU cross country coach Tim Riley said in a press release.

Teams from the University of Washington, Idaho, Gonzaga, Eastern Washington, and Seattle University will compete in this meet.

Coach Riley said the main goal is to race and see how things play out.

For the WSU men’s team, junior Todd Wakefield will compete in this race. Wakefield was the only Cougar cross country runner to compete in the NCAA Championships last season.

“He’s not quite up to where he was at the end of last year, but we have a lot of time,” Riley said.

The men’s race is 8000 meters and will begin at 11:35 a.m. on Saturday.

For the WSU women’s team, captain Ruby Roberts will compete in Seattle this weekend.

“We’ll see where she’s at,” Riley said. “She’s been altered quite a bit.”

Riley also mentioned that he hopes sophomores CharLee Linton and Emily Dwyer will run well in Seattle this weekend, along with senior Courtney Zalud.

The WSU women will run a distance of 6000 meters and will start their race at 11:00 a.m.
