Airport Road re-opens after an alcohol-related accident

Three of four people involved in an alcohol-related car accident on Airport Road early Sunday morning remain in Pullman Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police blocked off the west side of Pullman-Moscow Regional Airport to the intersection of NE Terre View Drive yesterday, which forced drivers to use alternate routes.

Airport Road is now open, although there could be temporary closures throughout the day due to further law enforcement activity on scene, said Pullman Police Cmdr. Chris Tennant. Pullman PD is working with Whitman County Sheriff’s accident tech personnel to resolve the incident.

“They’ll be doing some more work out there today,” Tennant said.

He said he doesn’t anticipate more closures, though.

Tennant said a vehicle heading east at around 2 a.m. Sunday sped off the south side of Airport Road and rolled multiple times.

One male and three females ranging from ages 21 to 40 were in the vehicle. No one died as a result of the accident, Tennant said. One of the occupants was later released from Pullman Regional Hospital, he said.

The driver of the vehicle, a 21-year-old female, was arrested for a DUI and vehicular assault, Tennant said. No formal charges have been made at this time while Pullman Police wait for blood test results and an accident specialist’s analysis of the scene, he said.

Tennant recommends an established plan of action for people who have consumed alcohol. He said having a designated driver or using taxi cab services can go a long way.

“Have a conversation before the evening on how everyone is getting home,” he said. “A little pre-planning saves these tragic personal accidents later on.”
