Ignore the big names

Start – Pierre Garcon, WR, Redskins

Garcon had a field day last week against a struggling Packers secondary. His Week 3 matchup against Detroit is equally favorable. Expect Garcon to be targeted early and often, leading to plenty of Garcon owners smiling from ear to ear this week.

Sit – Torrey Smith, WR, Ravens

Smith is the top guy in Baltimore, but the Ravens struggled against the Cleveland Browns last week, so expect much bigger issues against the Houston Texans this week. Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco has a history of struggling against Houston on the road, and Houston DB Johnathan Joseph is no easy matchup for Smith. These factors will ultimately impact Smith’s fantasy value for Week 3.

Start – Chris Johnson, RB, Titans

Johnson has had a slow start to the 2013 NFL season, facing two tough defenses in Pittsburgh and Houston, both on the road. Johnson returns home where he is traditionally effective, and faces a Chargers defense that allowed speedy Eagles running back LeSean McCoy to obliterate the Chargers front seven last week. San Diego had plenty of problems defending McCoy in the passing game as well, which for a duel-threat back such as Johnson, sets him up nicely for a breakout game back in Tennessee.

Sit – Matt Forte, RB, Bears

Forte has been effective especially in the passing game, but don’t get too excited. The Steelers defense at home is traditionally a nightmare for fantasy running backs, and with a pass heavy offense in Chicago, I don’t see Forte having a star-studded performance on primetime against the Steelers. Sure, Forte will still be targeted in the passing game, but I don’t see his yardage or touchdown total to be starter worthy for this week.

Start – Matthew Stafford, QB, Lions

Aaron Rodgers went for 480 passing yards and four touchdowns against the Redskins defense last week, so Stafford should be licking his chops going into Sunday’s game. Expect Calvin Johnson and Reggie Bush to be strong assets in the passing game, as the entire Lions offense is due for a big week. Stafford isn’t exactly a no-brainer for a consistent week after week fantasy start, but you can definitely rely on him this week against the Redskins to have a huge performance.
