Giants shouldn’t panic yet

The chances of reaching the postseason are slim for NFL teams who have not won a game this year and currently have three losses.

However, there is one NFL team in particular who has the best chance of turning their season around and advancing to the playoffs: the New York Giants.

It’s not looking pretty right now for Giants fans, as the team just suffered a 38-0 defeat to the Carolina Panthers last Sunday.

However, this team has too much talent and can easily turn it around. Having two-time winning Super Bowl champion quarterback Eli Manning and veteran coach Tom Coughlin, the Giants know what they need to improve.

Coughlin has sat in this position before. Under Coughlin, the Giants have never performed great as a regular season team. In 2011, the Giants won the Super Bowl against the Patriots, finishing the regular season with a 9-7 record. That season, the team lost four straight games from Week 10 to Week 13. However, it bounced back and won three out of four final games in the season, which advanced the team to the playoffs. With his past experience, Coughlin will make the adjustments to turn this season around.

The NFC East has held the slot as the top division in the league for years, and is still winnable for the Giants. A Wild Card spot might prove difficult to attain, but the team is not out of this division race. Besides the Giants, the Washington Redskins also have a record of 0-3. The 1-2 Philadelphia Eagles are in second place and the Dallas Cowboys are in first place with a 2-1 record.

Though Dallas defeated the Giants at home in Week 1 by a score of 36-31, the game could’ve finished either way. The Giants will have a home matchup with Dallas in Week 12 this season and have an opportunity to comeback. In the past, the Cowboys have had a history of choking toward the end of the season, so the Giants have a chance.

Last season’s NFC East Division champions, the Washington Redskins, are not the team that they were last season. Their quarterback Robert Griffin III is still not 100 percent after his injury, and as a result he’s struggling.

On offense the Giants have one of the best receiving groups with Victor Cruz. He caught 22 touchdowns in three seasons with the Giants and is one of the best receivers in the league. The team’s wide receiver Hakeem Nicks has battled injuries in the past, but when healthy he can make an impact for the Giants. Nicks has caught 27 touchdown passes in his career thus far with the team.

In order for the Giants to turn around they need to get the running game going. Having 6-foot-4, 264-pound running back Brandon Jacobs is a plus for the team because he is hard to tackle, which will help when the team is in the red zone.

The Giants may not play big in regular season, but with a winnable division and having 13 remaining games, don’t count out the team just yet.
