WSU tennis lost to the No. 9 California Golden Bears 6-1, Saturday afternoon.
The 22nd-ranked duo in the country for Cal, senior Hannah Viller Moeller and freshman Mao Mushika, beat WSU’s sophomore Eva Alvarez Sande and junior Elyse Tse, 6-1, and Cal’s freshman Tiziana-Marie Schomburg and sophomore Berta Passola Folch beat WSU’s junior Hania Abouelsaad and freshman Martina Markov, 6-1, to take the doubles point.
In singles play, Alvarez Sande defeated No. 39 Viller Moeller, 6-3, 6-0, to win the only point for WSU. The Cougars put up a fight with Abouelsaad sending her match to a third set and senior Fifa Kumhom almost completing the comeback in the third set, down 5-0 to lose 6-4.
At 10-10, the Cougs face off against the Washington Huskies in the season finale at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the WSU Outdoor Tennis Courts.
