Beware of wide receivers

Start – Knowshon Moreno, RB, Broncos

Knowshon Moreno is putting up big numbers and cashing in on monstrous runs. Expect Denver to jump into a big lead over Oakland this week, which should lead to more carries for Moreno. If Moreno typically sits on your bench, this is the week to call him up to the big show. He’s the real deal in the Mile-High City.

Sit – Josh Gordon, WR, Browns

Times are tough in Cleveland – again. Many are hyped-up about players returning from suspensions this week, including the Browns’ Gordon. However, being hyped-up about any player in Ohio right now is risky business. The Browns announced third-string quarterback Bryan Hoyer will start this week, and I don’t like relying on a third-string backup when looking for big fantasy points from a wide receiver. The offensive struggle in Cleveland will rain on Gordon’s return to the NFL.

Start – Matt Schaub, Quarterback, Texans

Two words: Ravens secondary. After two games, it’s apparent that Baltimore’s D simply isn’t what it used to be. The Texans, too, seem to be showing some signs of life in the passing game despite having Arian Foster and Ben Tate in the backfield. Look for Baltimore’s secondary to continue to struggle this week. Schaub probably won’t check in with seven touchdowns like Peyton Manning, but if your quarterback situation is dicey, Schaub is a solid option.

Sit – Eddie Royal, WR, Chargers

If your fantasy team is off to a shaky start, chances are you’re keeping a close eye on the waiver wire. Many people hastily picked up Eddie Royal after his point-explosion last week in San Diego. Don’t jump on the bandwagon expecting more massive displays of dominance this week. Philip Rivers has been uncharacteristically good and will come crashing back to earth soon. When he does, you won’t want Royal to be the casualty on your fantasy team.

Start – Anquan Boldin, WR, 49ers

Expect Colin Kaepernick and his one eyebrow to seek revenge this week after an embarrassing loss in Seattle last weekend. Part of you had to expect Boldin would be shut down by Richard Sherman last week, but this week the targets should come early and often for one of San Francisco’s finest receiving targets. Kaepernick is going to want to go nuts through the air and Boldin should find himself on the receiving end.
