Readers react to a column about the mass shooting in Las Vegas on Oct. 1 that left about 60 dead and nearly 500 wounded. According to the column, legislatures need to regulate firearms more extensively to prevent tragedies like this one from repeating.

Nathan Dragich: “I find it ironic that those who say they want gun control have no appreciation for the right they so readily want to take from people. Give up one right and we allow a tyrannical government to form. Who’s to say any other rights that we hold dear will be prevented from being taken away from us? If you give up one, you’ll lose them all.”

Emma Kurtenbach: “It’s really sad that y’all care more about your right to own a gun than the lives of innocent people. You’re right, we don’t know if gun laws will work because we’ve never been given the chance to enact any sort of law without conservatives screaming ‘TYRANNY!’ ”

Vince Talik: “I can’t think of another law that would have prevented this. If someone wants to kill mass amounts of people, I believe they will find a way! So when people mention ‘gun control,’ that’s pretty vague. Also, with a car full of ingredients to make a powerful bomb, which I understand he had, what would the narrative be? Would it be about gun control?”

Mel Mel: “Strict gun control does work to reduce gun violence, and I think the tens of thousands of lives that are lost or injured every year due to gun violence certainly justifies strict gun control.”
