Pullman City Council member Derrick Skaug was arrested yesterday on suspicion of driving under the influence.

WSU police officers pulled Skaug over on Stadium Way at 2:01 a.m. for having his high beams on. Officers had probable cause to arrest him, said WSU Police Assistant Chief Steve Hansen.

Skaug said he blew a .00 twice on a breathalyzer test at the police station and had not been drinking that night.

After the breathalyzer tests, the WSU police acquired a warrant to draw his blood and check for other substances in his system. The results from this test are not yet available.

Skaug also made harassment claims against WSU police for the arrest.

Hansen said there was no indication of harassment on the part of the arresting officers.

While ASWSU Vice President last January, Skaug was arrested for a DUI. The charges were reduced to first-degree negligent driving.
