After pleading his DUI case down to first-degree negligent driving, Derrick Skaug can continue serving as ASWSU Vice President and City Council member.

Skaug was arrested in late January on charges of driving under the influence. Two breathalyzer tests indicated his blood alcohol level was in excess of .09.

On March 8, Skaug pled down to a neg-1 to Whitman County Court.

“I learned a lifelong lesson: drinking and driving do not mix,” Skaug said in an email to The Daily Evergreen.

Skaug faces a $1,000 fine and 64 hours of community service through court mandates and Student Conduct sanctions.
