Pullman police arrested WSU PhD student Patrick Mahoney and charged him with 4th degree assault late in the evening of Feb. 28. Mahoney was held at the police department before being released with a set court date.
The alleged assault occurred just outside of campus, near Valhalla Bar and Grill. The victim of the assault, Jay Sani, is said to be an engineering student at WSU.
According to aĀ statement on Facebook, Sani was wearing a red Make America Great Again hat, which Mahoney ripped off before throwing it into the street. An altercation ensued between Sani, Mahoney and Gerald Hoff.
Mahoney and Hoff allegedly threw Sani to the ground and kicked him several times, causing bleeding and further injuries.Ā Mahoney and Goff were not arrested until later in the night after the altercation occurred.
“One or more of them then proceeded to kick Jay Sani while he collapsed on the concrete. Later that night, Pullman PD arrested both Patrick Mahoney and Gerald Hoff and took them to jail,” Sani said on Facebook. “They were both charged with 4th degree assault and later released.”
Mahoney is a PhD student in the School of Politics, Philosophy and Public Affairs. He also served as the guide for United Auto Workers 4591, a union for WSU student employees.
WSU suspended and removed Mahoney from all classes he previously taught.

Mahoney should be fired and denied any further progress towards his PHD. We donāt need individuals like this teaching at our universities, or in our communities. I am appalled that WSU hasn’t acted quickly to fire him. He should not be receiving any paid leave. Itās poor actions like this by WSU that will cause donors to remove financial support for the university, including me.

The videos of the assualt show 2 individuals attacking a single man. The 2 attackers punch and kick the man while he is on the ground. The attackers have been identified, arrested and charged. Why is Patrick Mahoney, a student and employee of WSU, still a student and employee of WSU? Does WSU condone this criminal behavior? WSU should be ashamed that Patrick Mahoney is still part of the WSU family.

I was a student at Evergreen State college in the early 1980s. They were the vanguard of extreme leftist ideology in the state back then. And even they were not this violent.
Today’s academic leftism is going the same way as the soviet socialists of the early 1900s, the Italian Fascists, and the national socialists of Germany in the 1930s. It seems leftism always resorts to violence when people catch on that their ideas are unworkable and harmful.

Apparently, far leftists are triggered by apparel with a slogan that they feel justified in their rage to beat and kick someone in a two on one fight. An altercation over clothing turns violent. Who in Godās name thinks this violence is acceptable? And nothing Iāve seen in the media about this so it must be so commonplace that it is not worth reporting.

Leftist professors at WSU… They’re a disgrace to civilized society. WSU leaders should publicly denounce his violence. Regents… Are you paying attention?!

A once again the left shows their kindness and tolerance . They will kindly tell you how to think and bully you violently for non submission. Awesome.

They’ve weaponized their illiberal, closed-minded intolerance!

He trashed his career over a hat. A hatā¦think about that. Imagine having him as a professor. Forget free speech or free exchange of ideas in his lecture hall.
