In a non-conference game Tuesday, the Cougars fell 6-4 at the hands of Seattle University.
The Cougars jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, with Jonah Shull delivering with a two-run home run in the second inning to get the scoring started.
Ryan Skjonsby added to the Cougars’ lead with a sacrifice fly in the third inning, extending the lead to 3-0.
However, Seattle U put up a four-spot in the bottom of the fourth, and it all came on one pitch. With the bases loaded, catcher Jackson Lind crushed a grand slam to give Seattle U a 4-3 lead.
Seattle DH Jake Wagoner extended their lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh, but WSU kept it close, scoring in the top of the eighth to make it a 5-4 game.
Seattle U right fielder Jared Stevenson added insurance with a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth, and that was where the scoring ended. Seattle U walked away with a 6-4 home win over the Cougs.
WSU is now 17-30 on the year, and the team has lost 11 of its last 15 games. Seven games remain on the schedule, including six conference games against UNLV and SDSU. WSU can still capture a winning conference record if it can get hot towards the end of the year. In non-conference play, the team is now 7-16, with one more non-conference game to go against Gonzaga.
