People flocked to downtown Saturday for Friends of Neill Public Library’s annual outdoor book sale, which aims to put books into the hands of readers.
The books were being sold for $5 by the bag.
“It’s a great deal,” said Jaclyn Gotch, Friends of Neill Public Library co-treasurer. “The idea is getting books into the hands of community.”

Books were not the only items being sold. Among the rows of books, there were CDs, DVDs and even a few VHS tapes, all at the same price as the books. All the items were donated by the Neill Public Library and community members.
“[There are] thousands of books and materials donated by community members or pulled from the shelves of the library, because they only have so much space, they have to get rid of materials to get new materials,” Gotch said.
The money made goes to Neill Public Library. Friends of Neill Public Library has raised nearly $4,300 for the library since the annual book sale started in 2021, according to Gotch.
The money goes back into the library to pay for non-book items, such as new furniture, outdoor seating and summer reading programs for kids.
The group also sells books in the library daily for as much as 50 cents.
