Coach Kent talks about Gonzaga

From staff reports

After getting a resounding win against the UT San Antonio, the WSU men’s basketball team is faced with perhaps their toughest test of the season as they head up to Spokane to take on No. 9 Gonzaga tonight.

“I don’t know if they (Gonzaga) have any weaknesses … because they are loaded,” Kent said during his Tuesday press conference. “I see an excellent basketball team, they’ve got depth, they’ve got size, they can shoot it, they can beat you inside and they can beat you outside.”

Despite the stiff competition that the Cougs will face on Wednesday, Kent sees the game as both an important game and a learning opportunity for the team.

“We are still in the process of determining our identity, who we are as a basketball team, how we want to play, how do we get our stops, who are our go to guys, all of those things we need to figure out,” Kent said. “We are getting ready to step on a platform that is going to force us to grow and that is a good thing. This game will be a measuring point that you can come back on.”

Containing the star-power of the Gonzaga squad was also a large focus for Kent.

“You can kind of pick your poison, they are all tough. I don’t think you can let any of them go off and have a monster night. Pangos is capable of doing that, Byron Wesley is capable of doing that and Wiltjer is capable of doing that,” Kent said. “They have so many guys that can put up numbers so it isn’t like you gotta stop any one guy, they can all score. What you have to do is really be on your game.”

The Cougars will face off with Gonzaga at 8:00 Wednesday in Spokane. The game will also be televised on ESPNU.
