Tennessee fires AD after meeting with Leach

Tennessee parted ways with Athletic Director John Currie Friday morning, according to ESPN’s Chris Low. Currie’s departure comes a day after he met with WSU Head Coach Mike Leach about the Vols head coaching vacancy.

Leach interviewed for the job Thursday while recruiting for the Cougars in California, according to multiple reports.

Leach flew back to Pullman and arrived earlier this morning. He said he wasn’t willing to confirm or deny reports of his potential meeting with the Vols.

“If I had met them I wouldn’t tell you, and if I hadn’t I wouldn’t tell you,” Leach said.

WSU offered Leach a raise and a contract extension prior to his meeting with Currie in Los Angeles but he was underwhelmed by the offer, sources told ESPN’s Kyle Bonagura.

The sixth-year head coach has been frustrated by WSU’s lack of communication about the search process for a new AD, sources told Bonagura.
