Man breaks into car, trapped and arrested

FROM STAFF REPORTS

After drinking at a downtown bar, one Pullman resident accidentally locked himself in a stranger’s car, and spent two hours trying to get out.

Allen Andersen, 29, left My Office Bar and Grill early Tuesday morning after having several drinks. A short distance from his residence, he climbed into into a car parked on the street, said Pullman Police Cmdr. Chris Tennant.

“His story is he was cold and climbed into another person’s vehicle,” Tennant said. “He convinced himself he was locked inside the vehicle.”

Tennant said Anderson called his parents, damaged the door panel and damaged the hatchback, spending over two hours trying to get out of the Chevy Trailblazer.

Finally, after hearing noises from outside, the owner saw Anderson in his vehicle and called the police. An officer arrived on scene, and shined a flashlight into the car.

Tennant said that Anderson shined his own flashlight from inside the vehicle, and continued yelling at the officer to get him out.

Anderson had been extremely intoxicated according to Tennant, and was arrested for third-degree malicious mischief, and second-degree vehicle prowl.
