WSU redshirt senior quarterback Luke Falk today won the Burlsworth Trophy, an annual award given to the best player in college football that began their career as a walk-on.

This was Falk’s third straight year as a finalist for the award. The previous two years, University of Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield took home the hardware.

Falk accepted the award during a banquet in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He thanked WSU special teams coach Eric Mele for giving him an opportunity to prove himself.

“Coach Mele, thanks for giving me a shot and taking a chance on a kid from Logan, Utah,” Falk said. “It’s been fun to be able to do what we’ve done.”

Falk set WSU and Pac-12 career records in passing yards, passing touchdowns, total offense, completions, attempts and 300-yard games this season. He has thrown for 3,593 passing yards and 30 touchdowns in his final season with the Cougars.

Falk will wear a WSU uniform for the last time when the Cougs take the field against Michigan State University in the Holiday Bowl at 6 p.m. on Dec. 28 at the San Diego County Credit Union Stadium.
