A good week for boom or bust wideouts

Start: Torrey Smith, WR, Baltimore Ravens

Smith has rebounded after a poor start to his season with four receiving touchdowns in his last four games. He has been the benefactor of a change in offensive scheme after the Ray Rice incident, especially in the red-zone.

Smith and the Ravens face a Cincinnati Bengals defense that has been torched in recent weeks, giving up 107 points combined in their past three games. With quarterback Joe Flacco red hot, expect Smith and the Ravens’ aerial attack to have a big day on the road.

Sit: Alfred Morris, RB, Washington

Morris has underachieved after an explosive Week 2, in which he rushed for 85 yards and two touchdowns against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Morris has had to share carries with Roy Helu Jr., which has impacted his overall fantasy value.

Washington faces a Cowboys defense that has surprised this season, especially when it comes to their front seven. Dallas has limited starting backs to a combined total of 112 rushing yards in their past two games. Expect the trend to continue and bench Morris this week.

Start: Sammy Watkins, WR, Buffalo Bills

The fourth overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft has surged since Kyle Orton took the reins at quarterback in Buffalo. Orton and Watkins have demonstrated chemistry since the change, as Watkins has accumulated 236 receiving yards and two touchdowns in his last three games.

Watkins and the Bills face a Jets secondary that has been decimated by injuries, which will result in a favorable matchup for the Bills’ passing attack. Watkins is clearly the number-one receiving option for the Bills with Orton at quarterback, which will increase his value in Week 8.

Sit: Jay Cutler, QB, Chicago Bears

Cutler entered the season as a possible top-five fantasy quarterback with a plethora of offensive weapons at his disposal. However, the Windy City quarterback has struggled in recent weeks against low-quality secondaries, with a combined seven turnovers in his last four games. Cutler and the Bears will travel to Foxboro to face the Patriots in Week 8 to take on a defense that has forced six turnovers in its last three games.

While I believe that Cutler will eventually turn his overall performance around, he will not be able to produce offensively against a tough defense on the road. The best move for fantasy owners is to wait and see if Cutler can rebound and not put him as their starting fantasy option right away.
