WSU removes request for expanded alcohol sales

The university has withdrawn a request made in spring 2016 to expand alcohol sales at home football games, a move that would have helped to relieve the athletics department’s multi-million dollar budget deficit.

WSU President Kirk Schulz revealed the decision Monday in an interview with Pullman Radio News, adding that they may revisit the request in a few years.

Officials estimated beer sales would generate about a million dollars annually.

The university applied for a permit to sell alcohol to all but the student section of Martin Stadium shortly before Schulz arrived. The Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board never granted the permit.
