I am discouraged to read of the proposed cuts to The Daily Evergreen. If there is one thing that is needed in our society today, it is the demonstrated importance and independence of the media. Whether we are speaking of the national media or that of a college paper, the crucial role journalism plays in our society cannot be overstated. Financial justifications may be a reality, but the importance The Daily Evergreen has in the WSU community, on campus, among the alumni and abroad is equally if not more valuable. I encourage the current administration to reverse its direction in this manner and continue the support and publication of The Daily Evergreen as it now stands.
