Art workshops start off October

From staff reports

A series of workshops will offer children the chance to make art.

Local art teachers Nancy Attebury and Dana Aldis will hold the workshops October through December at the Moscow 1912 Center. Children can come learn to draw, paint or make ornaments for the Christmas season.

Aldis, who has been teaching since 2007, said, “I became a teacher because I felt it was important to help the next generation learn.”

The Drawing in Color workshops taught by Aldis will take place Oct. 6, 15 and 22. People who are 15 years old or younger can register for the class by Oct. 6. The classes take place 4:30-6 p.m. and cost $123 for all three sessions or $41 per class.

Aldis said the class will be working with oil and chalk pastels, focusing on drawing line and value, and working from observation.

“I think it’s important for young artists or any artist to work from observation rather than a photo,” Aldis said.

She said it is a good introductory course for artists.

“As a teacher, if I can give them 100 percent, then I feel I’ve accomplished something,” she said.

Attebury will teach two workshops Hands-On Holiday Fun! and Painting on Glass.

Painting on Glass will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Oct. 4 for students 7 to 14 years old. The registration deadline is Oct. 2 and the cost is $35.

Hands-on Holiday Fun! will take place from 9-11:30 a.m. Dec. 6 for children 6 to 10 years old. The registration deadline is Dec. 4 and the fee is $25.

The supplies for all classes will be provided and students will be accepted after registration deadlines if room is available.
