The Day the Earth Stood Still theater-production hits the stage

From staff reports

The Earth will stand still this evening at the Nye Street Theatre in Pullman, as a cast of locals recreates the science fiction drama that first hit CBS radio waves in 1954.

Introduced in 1951 as a film written by Edmund North and directed by Robert Wise, “The Day the Earth Stood Still” has attracted a large audience as a sound-only production.

The story follows the appearance of Klaatu, a humanoid extraterrestrial who descends upon Earth in a flying saucer.

Pullman Civic Theater will present its own take on the story, directed by Kristin Lincoln Williams, at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 24 and again on Oct. 31. The theater is located at 1220 NW Nye St. Admission costs $5.
