WSU, UW make medical school agreement

UW and WSU came to a consensus Friday regarding the expansion of their medical education programs. The universities jointly agreed to dissolve their WWAMI partnership, according to a press release by WSU.

The universities will pursue separate options to address the shortage of physicians in Washington state.

According to the same release, WSU is continuing its efforts to acquire accreditation for a new medical school in Spokane, whereas UW is looking to expand their own 4-year program.

The two universities recognized the need to expand their programs and meet the growing demand for medical practitioners in the area. As long as the universities agree to not oppose one another’s legislative initiatives the decision to go separate ways should go smoothly, the release said.

WSU and UW have also agreed to create a full transition plan before the 2015 legislative season.
